The College of Science and Humanities supports graduate programs and certificates of advanced study. Students may work toward Master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

This program consists of a minimum of 63 credit hours of courses that provide students with a thorough background in the areas of individual and group counseling theories and skills; clinical practice; ethical, professional, and legal issues in counseling; social and cultural factors in counseling; human development across the lifespan; work, leisure, and career development theories and interventions; appraisal and assessment issues in counseling; and the application of research for licensure and national certification and for careers in mental health agencies, hospital programs, private practices, ministry-related counseling centers, and other public and private facilities.

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program combines preparation for certification and licensure in mental health counseling with rich practice experiences. The courses and programs required and suggested in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program were designed to reflect what the faculty believe represent necessary and appropriate educational experiences for Professional Counselors seeking national certification and state licensure as a clinical Professional Counselor (Maine: LCPC) or Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC). The MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

School Counseling

A program designed to prepare graduates to become professional school counselors (guidance counselor) capable of working collaboratively within Pk-12 school settings.

The 60-credit-hour M.S. in School Counseling program prepares graduates for the dynamic role of a school counselor capable of working collaboratively within a Pk-12 school setting. As a certified school counselor, individuals may be responsible for such tasks/activities as classroom guidance instruction, individualized counseling, needs-based work with student groups, consultation with parents and classroom teachers, and collaborating to develop effective programming, and empowering students to make appropriate life decisions.

Masters Certificate in Nursing and Global Health

With human health becoming an increasingly global issue, it’s vital for nursing professionals to understand how to navigate the broader healthcare landscape. MS Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare

Program Description

This online MS in Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare degree offers a flexible curriculum that addresses key issues and concepts in animal behavior and welfare. Students will gain an understanding of animal welfare, and how to maintain health and well-being through animal behavior, health, nutrition and training, in a broad range of contexts. This Master’s degree will provide a scientific background and approach that will have a wide range of applications in both research and applied settings, such as animal production centers, rehabilitation organizations, zoos, and shelters. Courses in this program cover areas such as Animal Cognition, Advanced Animal Training, and Animal Welfare Legislation. Students will benefit from the knowledge and experience of professionals working throughout the international animal behavior and welfare community.

Program Outcomes

Students who complete the Master of Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare should be able to:

MS Applied Psychology

This 30-credit interdisciplinary Master of Science in Applied Psychology offers students an

opportunity to advance their understanding of behavior, mental processes, and the philosophy

of the mind. Students will study both traditional and emerging subdisciplines in psychology. The

program provides a unique opportunity for students to customize their degree combining their

interests in different areas and pursue adaptive careers in psychology, public service, and the

creative and therapeutic arts.

This program is for students with an interest in understanding behavior and mental processes

from multiple perspectives, including education, business, the creative healing arts, as well as

positive, social, and cognitive psychology. Students can focus on practical applications of

theories and concepts and apply their knowledge to their careers and their daily lives and

relationships.

Program Outcomes

Students who complete the Master of Applied Psychology should be able to:

  1. Identify and apply quantitative and qualitative research methods used by Applied Psychologists;
  2. Synthesize an understanding of a complex body of knowledge in the application of psychological principles and theories to real-world environments
  3. Interpret and apply theoretical foundations of real-world Psychological phenomena using project-based solutions;
  4. Use relevant applications that have utility to solve complex challenges in everyday life and organizational settings including government, education, commercial, non-profit, and healthcare.
