M.S. Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare

Program Description

The MS in Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare offers a flexible curriculum that addresses key issues and concepts in animal behavior and welfare. Students will gain an understanding of animal welfare, and how to maintain health and well-being through animal behavior, health, nutrition and training, in a broad range of contexts. This Master’s degree will provide a scientific background and approach that will have a wide range of applications in both research and applied settings, such as animal production centers, rehabilitation organizations, zoos, and shelters. Courses in this program cover areas such as Animal Cognition, Advanced Animal Training, and Animal Welfare Legislation. Students will benefit from the knowledge and experience of professionals working throughout the international animal behavior and welfare community.

Program Outcomes

1. ​Apply principal theories and concepts in animal behavior and animal welfare to address complex and/or interdisciplinary issues in various settings.
2. Interpret contemporary global perspectives in the field of animal behavior and welfare.
3. Evaluate animal behavior and welfare information using quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills.
4. Use discipline-specific terminology, definitions, and conventions to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication in the field of animal behavior and welfare across a range of audiences.
