The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree program is an Individualized Program of Study (IPS) providing a broad background in the arts and sciences and specialization in two academic areas of particular interest to the student. This allows a student an opportunity to establish a broader base in general education than is ordinarily feasible, while combining in-depth study in different academic disciplines in ways not possible within the structure of traditional academic majors. This program is especially helpful for transfer students and others who have already accumulated college credits and are looking for a new path to college graduation. Each Liberal Studies major works with a faculty advisor to develop a degree plan that accommodates transfer credits, professional proficiency credits, or other academic credentials. The resulting curriculum, which includes a unique senior capstone project, is designed to help Liberal Studies graduates achieve their personal and professional goals.
Programmatic Outcomes
- Students will define their plans for life beyond college, and with the academic advisor and program coordinator design a course of study appropriate for achieving their plans.
- Students will design and execute a senior capstone project directly related to their post-graduation goals that helps position them for success in their first steps after college.
- Students will obtain a broad education by choosing challenging courses in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences beyond those required in general education and outside their areas of concentration.
